One day as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law, who had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem, were sitting there. And the power of the Lord was present for him to heal the sick. Some men came carrying a paralytic on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus. When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.” - Luke 5:17-21



The Prime Directive of the Christian Church is to bring crippled persons to Christ. Jesus understood that sin had a crippling effect upon men and that the only way to alleviate a man’s paralysis is to bring him into a personal relationship with the Christ. And so at several different places in the New Testament Jesus tells us to go into the hedges and highways and bring persons paralyzed by sin to the one who can remove the source of their paralysis.

That’s the great commission. The great commission requires each and every believer to bring persons crippled by contraventions of the covenant to Christ.

That’s what these four men did in this text.

 

They saw the powerless predicament of their friend and they brought him to Christ.

They saw the crippled condition of their friend and they brought him to Christ.

They saw the static situation of their friend and they brought him to Christ.

They didn’t disregard his dilemma… They carried him to the Christ.

They didn’t ignore his immobility… They carried him to the Christ.

They didn’t pretend not to see his paralysis… They carried him to the Christ.

They knew that sin was the root of his immobility…Sin had caused him to be crippled. They knew that sin was the source of his stagnation. And so collectively they carried him into the presence of the one man who could heal his hurt - Jesus.

Sometimes our friends lack the faith they need to situate themselves before the Savior but this text informs us that our faith can short-circuit their suffering... The text says JESUS WAS MOVED NOT BY THE FAITH OF THE PARAPLEGIC BUT BY THE FAITH OF HIS FRIENDS!

 

Do you have sufficient faith to bring your friends into the presence of the Savior so that he can soothe their suffering?

Beginning June 13 and ending July 22, 3 days in a Minister of Music Michael Booker will have a free performing arts camp. The camp will be open to young people, ages 7-18.

Date: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday each week (June 13-July 22)

Time: 8am-1pm.

They learn the fundamentals of music and theater. The culmination of the camp will be a theatrical production performed by the students.

From the Pastor’s Study

March 9, 2011, Ash Wednesday, we begin a 40 day journey(March 9, 2011-April 17, 2011) designed to help us grow deeper in our relationship with Jesus. It’s the Lenten season and this Lenten season affords us a great opportunity to identify with the great price paid by our savior for our redemption from the clutches of eternal death and the diabolical one.

Daily we will fast to identify with the hunger suffered by the Savior as he travelled through the Middle Eastern sands we know as the desert. Daily we will meditate upon the revealed word of God which enables us to resist the temptations of the one who seeks to test us... Daily we will pray that our walk and our words will be pleasing to our Lord so that he will enable us to complete the journey we begin today.

Set forth below are suggested scriptures to be read daily during the Journey. My prayer is that God gives us strength for the Journey!
